Hiya! I’m Martyn, a game developer from the UK who’s passionate about problem solving, developing highly performant systems and creating engaging game mechanics that feel rewarding to the player. At the time of writing this, I have 8 years of industry experience, in Technical Games Design, C++ and Audio. My whole professional career has been developing games and tools in Unreal Engine 4/5 with experience in Wwise as well. Outside of that I love to develop prototypes in various engines when inspired, and I actively create game music as a hobby where I’ve shipped a horror music pack that ended up in the game Choo Choo Charles.

I’m very passionate about developing programs that run efficiently and continuously strive to grow expertise in that area as a developer. Part of my journey along that route has been helped in part by the Performance Aware Programming Course that Casey Muratori has put together, where I’ve grown a deeper understanding of hardware level design for x86 based CPUs and the types of things to consider when problem solving.

To date my favourite games of all time are Deus Ex, Subnautica and Prey, after being enamoured by the emergent mechanics, fantastic narrative plots and immersive environments. There are so many fantastic games that it’s hard to name them all but I’ll give them ago: Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Killing Floor 2, Minecraft, Project Zomboid, Dying Light, Counter Strike, F1, Beam NG, Inside, Limbo, Boxville 1 + 2, some of the Hitman series, Resident Evil 7, Dead by Daylight, Budget Cuts, Dead Rising, Far Cry 6, Lethal Company, Garys Mod, Hidden Folks, Cats Organized neatly and I’m sure many more to come.
