Skyhook Games Contract

Working with Skyhook Games was a delightful experience. The company was looking to expand into creating their own DLC for Train Sim World and were after someone to help them on the technical setup aspect of development. My initial contract was to setup two vehicles in preparation for Skyhooks first DLC packs but later expanded as I took on some extra responsibilities in helping the team grow.

Skyhook has done a lot of work for Dovetail Games producing artwork for several vehicles on TS1 and TSW. I was able to assist the art team by giving some insight into technicalities of how several systems worked, enabling them to expand the type of art setup they could do for future vehicles. This included things like how to approach sectioning the vehicle into sub-meshes, what parts of the mesh need to be skinned, how to approach UVs for dynamic numbering, weather effects and lighting systems. I spent some time with the team discussing a good documentation workflow to enable efficient throughput for both designers and artists.

Later, I helped by providing insight and support into hiring candidates for technical designer roles which included reviewing candidate submissions, providing technical questions for an interview test and some onboarding and training with the new team members.
